A large share of the industrial activity is due to existing businesses expanding in the area. The area boasts a strong entrepreneurial spirit that encourages business start-ups and relocations to the area. Once here, the businesses tend to stay and grow and expand their businesses in Northwest Ottawa County. The quality of life is the main attraction coupled with a workforce that is highly skilled and has a strong work ethic. Businesses are attracting employees from as far away has the Hart/Shelby area and the east side of Grand Rapids (about a 45 - 60 minute commute).
Northwest Ottawa County is also located within a three county foreign trade zone - the Kent Ottawa Muskegon Foreign Trade Zone.
The Chamber of Commerce has economic development and training staff that can assist both existing and new industries with site location, training, financing, expansion assistance and more.
